How it works

  1. Schedule sessions: We will communicate via email or phone call to establish a regular weekly meeting time(s)
  2. Get a Zoom link: On the day-of, I email zoom links. This link should be valid for all of our future meetings as well.
  3. Send materials: If you have any PDFs, study guides, homework, etc, please send to me via email so I can paste this into our whiteboard space. Photos of physical papers taken with your cell phone work great too!
  4. Join from home: Utilizing Zoom, join the link at our meeting time.
  5. Work together: I utilize a drawing/writing tablet and Zoom's whiteboard functionality to maximize the digital space. You can even download your own copy of this whiteboard at the end of our sessions to have as a reference later!

What you'll need

  • Reliable internet connection
  • Laptop with webcam & audio functioning (tablets/phones can work but the zoom platform functions best on a laptop I've found)
  • Zoom installed (https://zoom.us/download)
  • A quiet space
  • All materials/calculators/etc.

Common questions

  • Is online tutoring as effective as in-person?
Absolutely. With tools like digital whiteboards and real-time screen sharing, the experience is just as good as in-person and sometimes better!
  • Can you help with last-minute test prep?
It's possible, I find tutoring works best with consistency over time, so I only tend to work with students for last-minute prep if they plan to continue sessions.
  • What if we have tech issues?
It can happen rarely, but thankfully internet connections and Zoom tend to be quite stable these days! Depending on the nature of the issue we may be able to press on, reconnect, or in extreme cases just cancel the rest of the session (for no charge).
  • Do you offer every-other week?
Generally not. I've found with the pace of most classes, meeting once every two weeks is not enough time to effect meaningful change for a student. That being said, there are instances where we may need to cancel due to breaks, being in a lull academically, etc. We just need to be in communication about this ahead of time!
